Syrian UN mediator confident of holiday ceasefire

The international envoy to Syria says the government has agreed to a ceasefire during the Islamic holiay of Eid al-Adha, which begins on Friday. President Bashar al-Assad's government is due to make an official announcement on Thursday.

United Nations and Arab League mediator Lakhdar Brahimi said that most opposition leaders have committed to observing the truce.
