Seriously, can someone tell us what the EU did to win the award? Many EU countries are struggling with riots, political infighting and a severe financial crisis. Greece needs a massive bailout, Spain was just in the news for police brutality, and we're not even going to bring up what's going on in Germany right now.

This cackhanded move could endanger the future of the Nobel Peace Prize. The award is no stranger to controversy, but considering its political nature, it is still important to choose wisely.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said, "The award ... shows that even in these difficult times, the European Union remains an inspiration for countries and people all over the world and that the international community needs a strong European Union."

All countries inspired the EU, please step forward.
