Sectarian bloodshed & killings of MQM workers in Karachi are part of a deep conspiracy: MQM

Expressing grave concerns on the increasing incidents of sectarian killings and targeted killings, the Co-ordination Committee of Muttahida Quami Movement has condemned the brutal killings of the MQM workers, sympathizers and several citizens. It said that the people belonging to the Shia and Sunni schools of thought had been killed in the city for the past few days but there had been a surge in these incidents for the last two days. It said that the MQM workers were also being targeted in different parts of the city and five MQM workers, and sympathizers had fallen victim during the last two days alone.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the killings of the MQM workers and sympathizers were aimed at igniting sectarian strife in the city and dividing it along sectarian lines. It said that the MQM was being punished for making practical efforts against sectarianism and religious extremism. It also said that the same elements that were unleashing violence and bloodshed in the rest of the country were active in Karachi pursuing their vicious goals.
The Co-ordination Committee said that every citizen of Karachi wanted to know about the reasons behind continuing wave of violence and bloodshed in the city despite heavy presence of police, Rangers and other law-enforcing agencies. It asked, “Who are the elements that are killing people without any fear of law in a brazen manner. They are killing the MQM workers, people belonging to the Shia and the Sunni community and workers of other political party with complete freedom and there seems to be no one to catch them.”
The Co-ordination Committee asked, “If the killings continue unabated in the presence of the law-enforcing agencies, what options are the people left with for protecting their lives and properties. What are the agencies doing that consume a large chunk of the federal and provincial budgets?”
The Co-ordination Committee said that the city had apparently been left to the mercy of bloodthirsty killers. It demanded of President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and all others at the helm of affairs to take serious notice of the sectarian bloodshed and killings of the MQM workers in Karachi.
The Co-ordination Committee said that the law-enforcing agencies should be held accountable for their failure. They should be made to realize their duty towards protecting the life and property of the people.
The Co-ordination Committee expressed sympathies to the bereaved families who had lost their loved-ones in incidents of violence and bloodshed. It asked them to exercise patience and not get provoked in order to maintain peace in the city.
