As they run laps and do calisthenics, these men prepare for battle.

This physical and weapons training is meant to help Syrian rebels fight President Bashar al-Assad's forces and take the northern province of Idlib.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNNAMED REBEL, SAYING:

"We are preparing ourselves on a daily basis. We are treating this as a fight in the mountains or in cities considering that Idlib Province is surrounded by mountains. Our main goal, which we are trying to pursue every day, is to conquer Idlib, God willing."

Rebel forces have already shut down two military airports in the province, according to the opposition.

Meanwhile amateur video captures explosions in Homs.

Other videos, which cannot be verified by Reuters, also purportedly show continued bombardment of Aleppo and areas near Damascus.

The attacks come as Iran acknowledged for the first time Sunday that it is providing non-military support to the Syrian government on the ground.
