Rescuers retrieve final body after China mine blast

Rescuers retrieve the body of the final miner trapped underground in a China coal mine on Monday after an explosion the previous day killed 15.

Thirty-eight miners were in the mine at the time of the explosion, 23 of whom managed to escape or were rescued.

Authorities said the cause of the blast was under investigation.

Last Wednesday, another explosion in a mine in Sichuan province in the country's southwest killed 44.

China's mines are the deadliest in the world because of lax enforcement of safety standards and a rush to feed market demand.

But despite the two blasts within days of each other, government stastics indicate that the death toll from accidents has been falling.
