Toulouse killings change French presidential race

Events in Toulouse have changed the French presidential race. They represent an opportunity and risk for all the candidates, and voters are expected to turn out in record numbers.

One poll suggested French President Nicolas Sarkozy's re-election chances are improving, and on Thursday the French President announced plans to jail people who published extremist views online.

Francois Hollande, Sarkozy main socialist challenger, paid homage to the work of the police.

But in the capital Paris, ordinary voters say the actions of the lone gunman were not going to change their voting intentions or the issues.
