Ecuador's Tungurahua spewed lava into air on Tuesday (August 21) causing the authorities to evacuate the population living in the surrounding areas.

In the town of Pilate residents are already feeling the effects. Some farming fields have been destroyed by falling ash, while animals and the local flora are at serious risk.

Local media reported that the authorities have urged residents living near the volcano to evacuate due to the volcano's increased activity.

The Tungurahua volcano has been in an active state since October 1999.
