Russian Cosmonauts Perform Spacewalk

Watch Russian cosmonauts perform dangerous and complicated tasks outside the International Space Station.

Two veteran spacewalkers float outside the International Space Station on Monday, carrying out a variety of vital tasks.

Station commander Gennady Padalka and flight engineer Yuri Malenchenko were in action for over 6 hours, relocating a construction crane, installing debris shields, and releasing a small satellite into orbit.

There was drama before the mission began when a leak was discovered in the airlock linking to the Russian segment of the station.

However, engineers eventually gave the all clear for the cosmonauts to proceed with the spacewalk.

NASA astronaut Sunita Williams and Japanese astronaut Akihiko Hoshide, both station flight engineers, are scheduled to carry out a similar mission on Aug. 30.

The space station flies about 250 miles above the earth, and contains a $100 billion laboratory for microgravity experiments and technology testing.
