Final preparations are being made around the world for New Year celebrations, but there a different scene unfolding in Mexico and Honduras.
Doomsday countdown clocks are ticking in those countries where, according to a Mayan prediction, the world will end in 2012.
Some experts believe that the apocalypse scenario is being exploited for profit, as about 50 million tourists are expected to visit Mayan sites next year.
