California refinery erupts in flames

The flames from a massive fire at this refinery outside of San Francisco are under control ---according to Chevron officials. The facility erupted in flames late on Monday sending a column of thick dark in the air. Firefighters worked for hours to extinguish the blaze

Officials are breathing easy having narrowly avoided a lengthy disruption which could have a serious impact on the west coast's fuel supply.

About 100,000 people were ordered to remain indoors to and local bus and rail lines were closed. At least 200 people are being treated for respiratory problems.
