One man in Adelaide, Australia waited on hold for a Qantas representative to answer his call for over 15 hours. Andrew Kahn was waiting for someone from Qantas to pick up so he could confirm his flight to New York, but he gave up after 15 hours, 40 minutes and one second. The recording that he was listening to kept telling him that someone would be with him “as soon as possible.” He called back after hanging up, only to find out that his ticket hadn’t been booked due to a code error.

A spokesperson for Qantas said: “our average contact centre wait time during that period was under a minute and the longest wait time was 17 minutes.” Qantas has fixed the error and offered to reimburse Mr. Kahn’s phone call costs if he sent an email copy of his phone records. During his time on hold Mr. Kahn reportedly surfed the internet and got some work done. He also read a 200 page advanced masters level book called Judgment in Managerial Decision Making.

What’s the longest you’ve ever been on hold?
