It’s a nightmare that has been embedded in our brains since ‘Jaws’ premiered. Earlier this week, Chris Myers and his teenage son were body surfing at Ballston Beach when Myers was attacked by a suspected shark. The attack occurred around 3:30 in the afternoon, with Myers displaying massive injuries to both legs, suspected to be from one large bite. A surgeon was on the beach during the incident and was able to treat Myers while waiting for paramedics. The brave victim remained conscious during the ordeal giving a thumbs up sign when asked if he was all right.

Beach goers reported witnessing a fin rise from the water mere moments before Myers was bitten. While there have been an increase in shark sightings in Massachusetts this year, the beach remains open and officials have yet to determine what marine animal caused the bite.

Western Australia has also reported many shark sightings. Several weeks ago, a man surfing near Wedge Island was killed as the result of a shark attack. It was the area’s fifth fatal attack in less than a year.
