Floods triggered by Typhoon Saola have killed eight people in the Philippines as of Tuesday (July 31), disaster management officials said.
Rivers swelled, and flooding in Manila and coastal provinces has forced more than 145,000 people to flee their homes and seek shelter on higher ground.
Heavy rains caused landslides while strong winds toppled trees, damaging homes and killing at least one person in Laguna province.
Two people died in Benguet due to landslides, local media reported, and at least five other people died from drowning, the disaster management office said.
Saola was moving northward at 7 kph (4 mph), with gusts of up to 150 kph (93 mph) and was heading towards southern Taiwan and southern China.
