Much of Italy's transportation has stopped largest labour union strikes

The Italian government is to call a confidence vote to push its austerity budget through parliament.

A cabinet meeting is being arranged to authorise the vote.

Meanwhile, much of Italy's air, land, and sea transport has ground to a halt as the country's biggest labour union goes on strike.
