South Sudan readies for referendum

With only 100 days to go until southern Sudan decides on independence from the north, expectations are high.

Salva Kiir, the president of southern Sudan hopes his people will vote to separate from the north of the country. But opponents of secession say they are too afraid to express their views.

Ensuring a free and fair referendum will not be easy, but a delay could mean instability, something the international community wants to avoid.
