US President offers condolences to victims

U.S. President Barack Obama visited the families of the victims of a deadly shooting at a movie theatre outside of Denver Colorado over the weekend.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING:

"I confessed to them that words are always inadequate in these kinds of situations, but that my main task was to serve as a representative of the entire country and let them know that we are thinking about them at this moment and we'll continue to think about them each and every day and that the awareness that not only all of America but much of the world is thinking about them might serve as some comfort. "

Meanwhile, thousands gathered to pay their respects to the families and friends of the victims.

12 people died and 58 others were injured when a man opened fire during a midnight screening of the film Dark Knight Rises in Aurora Colorado.

(SOUNDBITE) AURORA MAYOR, GEOFFREY DAWE, SAYING

"We are coming together tonight as a family would to provide love and support to those who have lost love ones and those whose lives have been scarred forever by this tragedy."

The suspect, 24 year old James Holmes, is due to make an initial court appearance later Monday.
