STORY: Dubbed the "German Valentino", designer Guido Maria Kretschmer presented his latest Egypt-inspired collection at Berlin Fashion Week on Thursday evening (July 5).

Inspired by his recent travels to Egypt, Kretschmer said that he was also taken in by the so-called Arab Spring and the force that could be felt all over the country.

Being one of the Berlin Fashion Week designers, agreeing to take special care in not booking super waif models, Kretschmer said he never used overly thin mannequins anyway, adding that he held the Italian fashion scene responsible.

After graduating from high school Guido Maria Kretschmer attended a renowned design school and won a corporate fashion design contest in his second semester. This was the beginning of his design career and in 1987 he founded his label "Guido Maria Kretschmer Corporate Fashion".

Kretschmer started his label with only three employees and worked predominantly in the corporate fashion sector. He closed his first major deal with the German airline Hapag Lloyd and designed uniforms for the crew members.

Furthermore, Kretschmer produced over two-and-a-half million outfits for Europe's leading tourism group TUI through the years.

Today Kretschmer is the most successful corporate fashion designer in Europe. He designed uniforms for Deutsche Telekom, Maritim, Montblanc, SPAR, MS Europa and many more.

In 2004 the designer fulfilled his dream and founded his label "Guido Maria Kretschmer Couture". He introduced his designs first in Shanghai and Tokyo. In 2005 Kretschmer presented his couture line for the first time in Germany at Berlin Fashion Week. Since then, celebrities like Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lopez have worn Kretschmer's creations.
