At least eight people died in the northern Turkish city of Samsun after torrential rains triggered flash floods, Dogan News Agency reported on Wednesday (July 4).

Heavy rains caused a river to burst its banks as water raged through the streets sweeping away cars and flooding homes.

Three children were reportedly among those killed.

Authorities are trying to identify the body of a woman who died after being swept away by the water.

Floods and landslides are common along Turkey's Black Sea region at this time of year.
