Fresh from swearing in as Egypt's new president on Saturday Mohamed Mursi told a jubilant crowd at Cairo University that his government is committed to upholding the country's international agreements.

Amid fears from some that a shift towards Islamist rule might undermine peace agreements with Israel and lead to cuts in U.S. military aid, Mursi reiterated his commitment to existing treaties.

On Palestinian issues Egypt's new president expressed his sympathy with their cause to obtain international "full legitimate rights"

"The state of Egypt, its people, the nation and the government and the presidential institution stands with the Palestinian people until they receive their full legitimate rights. And we will work on the realization of the reconciliation, the national Palestinian reconciliation, in order for the Palestinian people to unite and take back their land."

Earlier Mursi, took his oath in the constitutional court, instead of parliament, because the court had dissolved the Islamist-led lower house earlier this month.
