Bangladesh floods leave 110 dead

Flash floods and mudslides triggered by heavy rains have killed 110 people in Bangladesh, according to officials.

They say 250,000 people have also been left stranded after the heaviest rain in years.

Most of the deaths were caused by landslides, others by wall collapses, lightning strikes and surges of floodwater.

The low-lying and densely populated country, which is in its wet season, has been battered by six days of torrential downpours.

Army, police and fire brigade personnel were helping in rescue efforts.

Weather officials said more rain was expected over the next few days.
