Sousse is a port city in eastern Tunisia, located 143 kilometers south of Tunis, and on the gulf of Hammamet (Mediterranean Sea). "Capital" of the Tunisian Sahel - it is sometimes nicknamed the "Pearl of the Sahel" - and the capital of the governorate of the same name, it is the third largest city in the country after Tunis and Sfax. The medina of Sousse is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1988.
