Republicans take control of House of Representatives in US midterms
  • 12 years ago
Barack Obama said that he and his party took a "shellacking" - meaning a very sound beating - the the US midterm polls. Speaking on Wednesday, Obama could barely contain his disappointment. His Democrat party has lost control of the lower House of Representatives, winning 185 seats to the Republicans' 239, with 11 seats still to be decided. They only narrowly held onto their majority in the upper Senate. The Democrats have at least 51 seats out of a hundred, and the Republicans, 46. Two remain undecided. Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports on the polls.
