U2 bassist Adam Clayton leaves a Dublin court on Wednesday (June 6), accusing his former assistant of stealing close to 3.5 million (U.S.) dollars (2.8 million euros) from his bank account.

47-year-old Carol Hawkins has pleaded "not guilty" to the charges, as the trial got underway on Thursday (June 7).

She's facing more than 180 charges of theft, between 2004 and 2008.

The court heard an accusation that Hawkins withdrew 389,000 USD (310,000 euro) in one transaction, with most others ranging from 1,300 to more than 45,000 USD (1,000 to 36,000 euros).

Clayton is expected to be called in as a witness over the length of the trial, which could last up to six weeks.
