Catalonia votes on bullfighting ban

The Catalan parliament in Spain is voting on Wednesday whether to ban bullfighting in their region.

This quintessentially Spanish pastime is already banned in the Canary Islands where animal rights campaigners had triumphed to ban the sport.

But for many Catalans, a move against bullfighting is not just about cruelty to animals, it is also about asserting their identity.
