Riz Khan - THE NATO FACTOR IN AFGHANISTAN

With President Obama's announcement of an increase in U.S. troops for Afghanistan comes the expectation of an additional contribution in force strength from its NATO allies. But with support for the war diminishing among European citizens, how many more troops can its national governments still provide without deeply alienating voters? Some countries would prefer to expand the number of personnel assigned to train Afghan security forces rather than put more of their soldiers on the front lines, while others are considering an increase in their foreign aid budgets to fund more development projects as a way to strengthen the Afghan government.

In this episode, Riz asks NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen how the new U.S. strategy in Afghanistan will affect NATO's plans for the region.
