The Taliban said an attack that killed at least four people in the city of Kunduz on Friday was their "welcome message" to the new US commander in Afghanistan.

Six suicide bombers stormed the office of an aid organisation working with the US government the same day General David Petraeus arrived in Kabul to take charge of the US war effort.
