Barack Obama may have broken racial boundaries when he became the first black US president, but he has admitted that racism is still common.

The US president made the comments in response to the arrest of a renowned black professor at his own home.

Barack Obama said the officers who arrested Henry Louis Gates acted stupidly, adding that African-Americans and Latinos have been targeted disproportionately by police.
