A five-wicket win for the home side meant that the Delhi Daredevils are the first side to enter the play-offs and they can finish no lower than third, which also guarantees them a Champions League spot although the game was the first played in this year's IPL since the announcement that five Indian players have been suspended as the BCCI begins an inquiry into spot fixing.
Bowlers were on top for much of the game with Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav starring for Delhi before Pawana launched a Kings XI comeback. However, after Kings XI captain David Hussey had played a lone hand with 40 not out, Delhi had Mahela Jayawardene's 56 not out, Man Ojha hitting 35 and Irfan Pathan (19 not out) to thank for their win.
Kings XI must now win their two remaining games - against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils again - and hope that other results go their way to stay in the competition.
