Jane has been a practicing MT for 23 years. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeastern University, Boston in 1983. Her love for the sciences prompted her to attend massage school. She received her massage training at the Institute of Massage Therapy in Boston from 1987-1988. She furthered her massage training under Ben Benjamin at the Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge.
In 2004 Jane decided to become an educator. The rural nature of Maine spurred an interest in web based education. Jane asked herself "as a user, how would I like an online course structured"? The answer to that question led to the current online presentation that includes a no nonsense approach. All hands on modalities have a "hands on" requirement. Jane tells other massage professionals there are two very good reasons to explore web based education.
1. Jane's courses are presented in streaming video. You can review and review as many times as you like in the comfort of your own home. The hands on requirement prompt the learner to review the instructional portion of the course.
When you attend a live workshop, especially if it is a big name in our industry there are anywhere from 50 to a few hundred people in a conference room. All MT's are learning the modality at the same time. After a number of hours of demonstration and practice you walk away with a certificate. But do you really know how to deliver that modality?

2. Our industry is diverse. Our population is made up of people who are in a second career, stay at home Moms who supplement their income with massage, people like myself who supported a family on a massage income etc., continuing education on demand eliminates the additional costs inherent in live trainings, i.e.; travel expenses, pricey workshops, child care for the kids back home and loss of wages while the MT is away from their practice. Training on demand allows the MT flexibility to learn when it is convenient.
