An Arab League observer has said he saw snipers in the Syrian city of Deraa, and warned the government of consequences if they were not immediately removed, as protests against President Bashar al-Assad continued across the country.

On Saturday, two leading Syrian opposition parties signed a draft agreement to unite against Bashar al-Assad, and set up a "parliamentary system for a democratic, pluralistic civil state and guarantees the exchange of power through elections".
