Rescuers in Indonesia's West Java are battling to reach dozens of people believed to have been buried alive by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake.

Nearly 50 people have been killed and about 5,000 forced into shelter homes.

Tremors from the epicentre off the coast of West Java were also felt hundreds of kilometres away in Jakarta, the capital.

Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen reports from the town of Pangalengan, one of the worst-hit areas.
