While the top American soldier in Iraq is trying to focus on the positive at political hearings in the United States, the reality on the ground is unrelenting attacks and gorwing sectarian divisions. August was deadliest month for Iraqi civilians this year. Now, in an exclusive interview, the lead spokesman of one of the most significant Sunni armed groups is making an offer to America. The head of the Islamic Army of Iraq says he is willing to sit down with the Americans and talk peace if they will commit to a timetable for the withdrawal of soldiers. Owen Fay reports.
