Individual tributes have been placed on the shores of Utstranda, a lakeside location looking towards the Norwegian island of Utoeya, the scene of Anders Behring Breivik's massacre last summer, as his trial starts in Oslo.

Breivik has admitted setting off a car bomb that killed eight people at government headquarters in Oslo, then massacring 69 people in a shooting spree at the island summer camp for Labour Party youths, outside Oslo, on July 22, 2011.

At the start of his trial, Breivik denied criminal guilt for the attacks, saying he was acting in self defence of the nation.

The trial is expected to last ten weeks.
