Syrian refugees protest in Turkey

Syrians demonstrate against Bashar al-Assad in this Turkish refugee camp

They have no faith in Kofi Annan's United Nations peace plan.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN REFUGEE HASSAN SAYING:

"I don't believe the regime will comply with the deadline. They have taken me and my relatives out of our house naked. We didn't have any weapons."

There has been no let-up in the violence since Assad accepted Annan's six-point peace plan more than a week ago.

On Thursday more than 2,800 Syrians fled across the border, according to Turkish officials, by far the highest number in one day.

Amateur video from Syria, which Reuters cannot independently verify, purports to show a tank firing in Douma on Thursday. Opposition activists say Syrian troops and tanks are battling rebels.

Another clip has crowds carrying a coffin in Kafrouma.

The U.N. says Assad's forces have killed more than 9,000 people in the past year as he has tried to crush pro-democracy demonstrations across the country.
