Suicide bomber targets Helmand troops

This is the site of a suicide blast in Afghanistan's southern Helmand Province.

A suicide car bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops in the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah.

UPSOT SOUNDBITE

This senior police detective says the suicide bomber's plan seemed precise because the car exploded just when the convoy was driving past.

At least six people were wounded in the explosion.

It was not immediately clear whether foreign troops suffered casualties in the blast.

Despite the presence of more than 100,000 foreign troops, violence across Afghanistan is at its worst since the Taliban were toppled by U.S.-led coalition forces in late 2001.
