LAYLA ANNA-LEE with THE SHILLS

These five post-punkers who hail from Cambridge dont hang about when it comes to knocking together thorny three-minute wonders with the same kind of British charm reminiscent of The Smiths, Pulp, The Clash and Elvis Costello.

The Shills formed after becoming increasingly frustrated with todays musical offerings. What they were hearing on the radio, reading about in magazines and seeing at gigs just wasnt filling them with the kind of excitement they needed, so they stopped searching so hard and decided just to do it themselves. Contemporary music is moderate states front man Tom: We want to put some intelligence and fervour back into Rock 'n' Roll... We use our band as a vehicle to escape our otherwise overwhelming state of inertia. Music will always give us this release; we want our music to give others the same release.

The Shills have recently been taken under the wing of producer Roger Fife (Manic Street Preachers, Tricky, Antony And The Johnsons) who quickly recognised that this is the band who will soon be bursting into the mainstream consciousness with their honest, upfront and undeniably catchy indie rock.
