Grammy-winning singer Whitney Houston's body was removed early on Sunday (February 12) from the Beverly Hills hotel where she was found dead the day before.

The cause of her death is still unknown.

Houston, 48, had been staying on the fourth floor of the Beverly Hilton where she was expected to attend the annual pre-Grammy award party thrown by her career mentor, music executive Clive Davis.

Beverly Hills police said they were called to the Beverly Hilton at around 3:43 p.m. local time, and fire department personnel who were already at the location responded immediately.

Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. local time.

Crowds of media personnel and fans gathered in the hotel's parking lot to catch a snapshot or a glance of the white coroner's van departing with Houston's body, shortly after midnight.

The body was taken to the Los Angeles County Coroner's office for examination.
