There is a smaller lake called Nagin lake where the waters are bordered by trees of willow and have magnificent display of the mountains. Areas of the Dal Lake are grouped with slanting roofed houses on islands, while other parts seems lush green like well-planned gardens. Dal lake is surrounded by gardens of mughal era such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh. Dal lake is a part of natural wetland which covers 21.1 square kilometres , including its floating gardens.
