India Wow! Part 3: Varanasi; Ganges Rites and Risky Rickshaw Rides: 2/16/2010. Our Travel Diva Hessie + tony of ad Guida Video Productions are on location in India with some like-minded travelers. We fly from Delhi; pictures are taken enroute to Varanasi from the airport; Sarnath, the “Cradle of Buddhism” is visited. We must take a rickshaw to the Ganges to reach the Dasaswamedh Ghat (steps) – then another, our wildest rickshaw ride, when we head back. We board a small boat to view the evening’s spiritual spectacle: cremation pyres on the bank; people lighting votive candles and placing them in the water, the shore alive with priests signing, choruses chanting, and music and percussion instruments. On the rickshaw ride back we are treated to a light show and a Moslem celebration at its height. India Wow! was recorded in HD, 16:9 aspect, in February 2011. Extra photo credits are noted.
