As Japan's nuclear crisis stretches into its third week with no end in sight, the operator of the damaged power plant releases a video of the smashed nuclear reactor. Let's take a look.

The operator of Japan's stricken nuclear plant released this new video of one of its smashed reactors on Friday.

The video, shot by a camera attached to a crane, shows the damaged interior of reactor No. 4 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex. Smoke is seen here rising above the reactor while water is being dumped on it. This video was shot on March 24 and was released by Tokyo Electric Power Co, or TEPCO.

The company has been criticized for its handling of the emergency at its six-reactor plant that was damaged in the March 11 earthquake.

A local newspaper reported on Friday that the government is considering taking control of the company, in the face of mounting public concerns and a potentially huge compensation bill.

The crisis is the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986.
