And in Japan, mass burials of quake and tsunami victims continue. In one town alone, the tsunami killed more than 650 people, and more than 1000 are still missing.

Mass burials continued for the third day in Japan's tsunami-ravaged northeast town of Higashimatsushima, nearly two weeks after the disaster.

On Wednesday, Japanese self-defense troops carried 36 coffins to a mass gravesite.
A total of 94 bodies have been buried at the former waste site, and hundreds more will be laid to rest in the coming days.

Permission from the victim's family is still required before a body can be buried in a mass grave. City authorities have been carrying out four mass burials a day.

Most Japanese believe cremation is needed to release the body's spirit. It is likely many of those being buried may be disinterred at a later date so full funeral rites can be performed.
