Train services were suspended after militants blew up a portion of a railway track on the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday. Train services have since resumed.

According to an eyewitness, a large explosion was heard on Monday evening. Locals rushed to the scene and saw the blast had damaged a portion of the track.

However, the blast wasn’t particularly powerful.

Senior railway officials temporarily repaired the track.

[Showkat Malik, Senior Superintendent, Railway Police]:
"It is definitely a plan by the militants to disrupt the everyday, normal activities of the people. The train is for people. It is for people's benefit."

An investigation is now underway.

The restive Himalayan region of Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan, both of which claim the region in full. They have fought two of their three wars over the region.
