Investigations into India's 2010 Commonwealth Games continues. In their latest raid, Indian officials targeted the former CEO of New Delhi's largest broadcaster over irregularities over broadcast rights of the event. The Games have been dealing with issues of corruption on many levels, from poor facility construction, to officials making shady contracts.
On Friday, India's Central Bureau of Investigation raided the house of B.S. Lalli. He's the former CEO of Prasar Bharti, the largest public broadcaster in New Delhi.
The raid aimed to gather more evidence regarding the alleged irregularities in the grant of broadcasting rights for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The V K Shunglu Committee has been appointed by the federal government to probe allegations of corruption in the Commonwealth Games. It noted that Prasar Bharti approved highly inflated bills in connection with Games broadcasts.
The Games were estimated to be one of the most expensive sporting events. Official estimates say it cost up to $3 billion, while nonofficial sources claim it was more than $15 billion.
The Games, held in New Delhi, were marred by charges of corruption, dubious contracts, and poor workmanship in the construction of facilities.
