Brits set to storm Golden Globe Awards

Colin Firth and Ricky Gervais are on course to be the stars of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

50-year-old actor Firth is hotly tipped to pick up the Best Actor award for his role as King George VI in The King's Speech, which leads the nomination race with seven nods.

Ricky Gervais will host the ceremony for the second year running, and there is already speculation over which celebrities will fall victim to his famously sharp tongue.

Overall it is a good year for British film at the awards, and a good sign for homegrown talent at the Oscars in February, with English director Christopher Nolan's Inception also among the big hitters.

The awards take place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday 16 January.
