A bus has overturned near Norwich Airport, trapping some of its passengers, the fire service has said.

The accident happened on the A140 near Horsford at about 3.40pm on Friday, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said.

A member of the service's control room staff said: "A bus has overturned, with persons trapped, and efforts are being made to extricate them."

Media reports say there were 48 passengers on board, plus the driver, and that five people were seriously injured. The rest only suffered minor injuries.

A Norfolk County Council spokesman, who is at the scene, said the vehicle was on its side.

"A major incident has been declared. At this stage there is nobody left at the scene.

"Those injured have been taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

"Those who appeared uninjured were taken to the local village hall to be checked over there."
