Two Malaysian nationals have been rescued by police in the Philippines after being held captive by an armed group for 10 months. The authorities are still looking for the kidnappers.

Two Malaysian nationals who were kidnapped by an armed group in February were rescued on Tuesday in the Philippines.

Chen Yu Chung and Lai Wong Chan were found by the Philippine police along the coast near the Malaysian border.

The victims were kidnapped at a seaweed farm on February 8, and held captive for 10 months.

Local and Malaysian authorities are still looking for the kidnappers.

[Raul Bacalzo, Philippine National Police Chief]:
"As soon as they have stabilized, they are going to coordinate with the Malaysian police for us to conduct a formal investigation. That's the job left for the Philippine National Police. To identify the perpetrators and file charges against the perpetrators."

The kidnap victims recount how they were found by the local authorities:

[Lai Wong Chen, Malaysian Kidnap Victim]:
"We are on a beach side then we saw a boat pass by. We just give a signal to the boat came over. Then we talk to them how we can leave here, and they send us to the town."

(Answering reporter's question: "What about the kidnappers - where did they go?") "That we don't know. They just left like that."

(Answering reporter's question: "Is it safe to say you were abandoned?") "I think you can say that."

Despite their 10-month captivity, the two Malaysian nationals said they were not harmed or threatened by their captors and were treated well.

What the two victims want right now is to go back to their homeland and see their families again.

[Chen Yui Chung, Malaysian Kidnap Victim]:
"To my family, two days from now we will be together, just wait for me."
