Indonesian police have arrested a man suspected of training militants in Southeast Asia. Indonesian authorities have stepped up their campaign to root out militants, following bombing attacks of two hotels in Jakarta back in 2009.

On Tuesday Indonesian police arrested Islamist militant commander Abu Tholut for alleged involvement in paramilitary training in Southeast Asia.

The capture is the latest in a string of high-profile raids in the past year, following the deadly bomb attacks on two Jakarta hotels in 2009.

Abu Tholut is a firearms expert who went to Afghanistan in the late 1980s, before returning to Asia to train members of the militant group Jemaah Islamiah in the Philippines and Indonesia.
