Kelly Slater Wins His 10th ASP World Title

Sorry, Bo Derek, but Kelly Slater's "10" was a much more beautiful and dramatic beach scene. The 38-year-old surfing veteran from Cocoa Beach put the wraps on his historic 10th world surfing championship Saturday, winning the Rip Curl Pro Search contest in Isabela, Puerto Rico -- fittingly, with a perfect 10.

I don't know how it all came together," said a watery-eyed Slater, trying to hold back his emotions and wearing the new Quiksilver 10 black cap. "Just before (the contest in) Brazil, a friend asked me about going for 10, and I said, 'Yeah, I'll go for it,' then the points started coming my way. I knew something special was coming."
