The Australian Transport Safety Bureau issues a new warning over the engines in Airbus A380 planes... saying a new defect has been discovered. A mid-flight engine failure on the A380 aircraft forced Qantas and other airlines to ground their fleets and inspect engines for safety.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau issued a report on Thursday identifying a potential manufacturing defect in the Airbus A380 aircraft.
The bureau's statement says there could be a defect with an oil tube connection to the high-pressure or intermediate-pressure bearing structure of the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine installed in some A380 aircraft.
This could lead to oil leakage and engine failure from an oil fire.
In response to the recommendation, Rolls Royce, affected airlines and safety regulators say they're taking action to ensure the safe operation of A380 aircraft.
A mid-flight failure of a Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine on a Qantas A380 aircraft on November 4th forced the airline to ground its fleet.
Qantas resumed flying its Airbus A380 super-jumbos on November 27.
The Transport Safety Bureau will hold a media briefing on Friday to present the known facts and findings gathered from the investigation.
