U.S. President Barrack Obama Arrives in Jakarta, Indonesia

And President Barrack Obama is now in Jakarta for a two day visit. He is expected to be well received by most Indonesians because he lived there when he was a boy growing up.
U.S. President Barrack Obama arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday, on the second leg of a four-country Asian tour.
Obama was welcomed by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister and the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia.
Most Indonesians rejoiced when Obama was elected president two years ago.
As the world's largest Muslim country, Indonesia saw him as a leader who could repair ties with the Islamic world. They are also fond of Obama because he lived in Indonesia for part of his childhood.
Obama is scheduled to visit Jakarta's Istiqlal Mosque which is viewed as a chance to repair ties with the Muslim world, damaged by the failure to shut down the Guantanamo Bay detention center and the ongoing war in Afghanistan.
In 2009 in a major speech in Cairo Mr. Obama called for a (quote) "new beginning" in relations with Islam.
Indonesia and the wider Muslim world are still waiting to see that new beginning, but Obama's visit to Jakarta gives him another chance to restore that faith.
During his visit, Obama and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono are expected to sign a "Comprehensive Partnership" they agreed to a year ago.
